Experience the Best of Maine Agriculture at Common Ground Fair

Whether you’re into organic farming or simply appreciate the art of farming, the Common Ground Country Fair is the place to go. This 46th annual event is dedicated to the celebration of rural living and Maine agriculture. During the fair, you’ll see more than 400 vendors selling everything from fresh milk to organic vegetables.
The fair also offers a variety of educational events. In the past, keynote speakers included Wendell Berry, Scott Nearing, Helen Nearing, Vandana Shiva, and Elliot Coleman. The fair also includes livestock pens, including pigs and chickens.
The fairgrounds are located off Route 17 between Augusta and the coastal Camden Hills. The fair is operated by a board of trustees and a committee of officers. Each officer is responsible for a specific aspect of the fair’s operation. Most people involved with the fair are either farmers themselves or work for a local business. Many of them participated in fair exhibitions as kids.
The Fair also has more than 1,000 exhibitors, demonstrations, and workshops. In addition to the poultry and other animals, you can find a variety of foods and crafts. Those who prefer to buy organic produce can also stop by a farmers’ market. The fair also offers two food courts that feature only organic, prepared foods.
