The Cloverdale Citrus Fair began in 1893 as a citrus show. The first meeting of the Citrus Fair Association was held in 1893. In those days, Cloverdale was known for its lemon and orange orchards. However, successive frosts eventually put an end to the commercial citrus industry.

The Cloverdale Citrus Fair was organized in 1895. It started as a small event held in the Library Hall and later in the livery stable. The hayloft of the livery stable was used as a dance floor during the early years. In 1897, the event moved to a wood-frame building at the corner of West and First Streets. It was relocated to the current site at Citrus Fair Drive in 1951. Today, the Cloverdale Citrus Fair is still a vital part of Cloverdale’s community.
