There are many types of poultry showmanship. Some are traditional, such as 4-H Style showmanship. Others emphasize general facts about poultry, including anatomy and posing. In either case, the contestants must demonstrate that they have learned how to handle their animals.
For a child who has never exhibited a bird before, it’s important to be knowledgeable about the species. Knowing the bird’s name is crucial. Knowing the care of your bird will make answering questions easier. Getting to know your bird’s breed is another way to show your knowledge.
Junior Showmanship contestants from different age groups took home top prizes. Overall Chicken Showman Drew Black took home the win. He beat out Robbie Bennett, Hannah Houck and Karleigh Cooper for the title. Overall Turkey Showman Justin Everhart took third place. In duck showmanship, Andrew Hedley and Jonah Goddard placed first and second.
Entry requirements are strict. To enter, one must be at least four years of age and in milk. The champion of the day automatically enters into the best udder category. There are also rules that specify that the sire and dam must be named. A herd of four does of any age must be owned by one exhibitor.

The Large Fowl & Bantam category is one of the largest divisions at the New York Yankee Fall Classic Poulation Show. Bantams and large fowl are distinguished by their unique plumage patterns. Bantam males feature bright red feathers laced with narrow white lacing. Females have a rich salmon body plumage and a black tail and back. At maturity, these birds weigh about 44 oz.
Bantams and large fowl are both recognized by the American Poultry Association. These birds are shown in classes with different standards of weight. There are seven classes of bantams and large fowl. Organizers of these shows put in a lot of work to make sure the animals are well organized and judged.
Large fowl weigh nine to twelve pounds. Bantams are smaller, 1.5-3 pounds. Bantams are also easier to handle and do not require as much space. They make good pets and can be used for eggs and meat.
