Is There An American Bantam Association?

At BackyardChickenNews, we help people who want to raise backyard chickens by collating information and news blended with our own personal experiences.

The American Bantam Association represents breeders of all types of bantam poultry and is an advocate for the breed. Its mission is to improve the breed and promote the breeding and exhibiting of pure-bred bantams. It also sponsors state meets and special meets and assembles information regarding bantam husbandry and breeding. The association also aims to increase the economic value of bantam poultry.
The ABA also publishes a quarterly newsletter containing notifications of events and timely articles. It also publishes a yearbook that has a history of the breed, an official listing of members and their breeds, a summary of the latest national meets, and a complete list of award winners.
The Life Achievement Award is the highest award given by the ABA to a competitor. This award recognizes long-term, consistent wins over a significant number of competitors over a period of time. To qualify, a competitor must have been a member of the ABA for at least ten years. Starred wins are only counted when an exhibitor is a member in good standing. A breeder is eligible for the award if she has at least 20 starred wins over a variety or breed.
Any proposed changes to the BANTAM STANDARD must be published in QUARTERLY so that members may comment on them. In addition, qualifying meets are required to be held at two meets that host the ABA Annual or another board-approved meet. At each qualifying meet, at least five breeders must be present and qualify a minimum of 25 birds in each variety in at least four classes.
Nankins are a heritage breed. They were first known as the common yellow bantam in 17th-century Britain. For almost three centuries, they were thought to be extinct. Today, they have made a comeback in the United States and Europe and are gaining international recognition. Their size and variety allow for endless possibilities.

The ABA has a number of requirements for members. These include the following: Individual membership dues are the same for individuals, couples, and families. Life memberships are available for couples and families. Members receive a free yearbook and quarterly publication. In addition, if the member chooses to participate in a life membership plan, the money will be invested in an ABA Irrevocable Trust Account. The earnings from the account are paid to the ABA and remain invested to benefit the Association.
The American Bantam Association is a good place to find information about the many different types of bantam breeds. The ABA also has an annual yearbook that contains photos and breed information. The yearbook also lists winners and judges. You can also contact the ABA president, Matt Lhamon if you are interested in specific breeds.
The ABA requires that all judges at sanctioned meets be members in good standing. At District, State, and Provincial meetings, at least one judge must be an ABA-licensed judge. In addition, all judges at Special Meets must be ABA members in good standing. However, judges may not exhibit and judge birds in the same bantam classification at the same time.
The Association also has officers who will make decisions on behalf of the organization. In addition to the president, there are vice presidents, state and provincial representatives, and 16 District Directors. These officers will run the Association and ensure its policies and procedures are followed. The Association also has a Secretary-Treasurer, who is responsible for recording the minutes of meetings.
To become a member of the American Bantam Association, you must have a license for judging. The license is intended to reflect the standards of conduct that the ABA has set. For instance, licensed judges may exhibit and judge bantams and breeds of varying sizes. However, judges who are licensed by the provinces of Canada are exempted from these requirements.
The ABA has several awards for the top performers at its major meets. The Life Achievement Award, which is the highest level of achievement for an exhibitor, recognizes a long-time winner who has a record of winning over a large number of competitors. In order to become eligible for this award, the exhibitor must be a member for at least ten years. To become eligible, a person must have 20 starred wins in a variety or breed of 100 birds or more.
In addition to the requirements for membership in the APA, breeders of bantams must also meet the ABA’s standard for recognizing a breed. There are a number of breeds that are classified as bantams, with the most popular being Old English Game bantams.
