California County Fairs continue to attract large crowds year after year. This year’s 115th Humboldt County Fair is no different. The 115th annual fair opens on Thursday. The North Coast Fair offers four Round Robin Championships to 4-H and FFA exhibitors. The winner of each competition wins a cash prize. The winning exhibitor in each category earns a prize from each Round Robin. Aside from cash, there are other awards at the Fair that recognize outstanding performance.
The fair’s livestock section includes livestock barns and an auction of the show’s livestock. Livestock auctions are held in an arena at the rear of the fairgrounds. Although this auction is often bittersweet for exhibitors, it is a way for them to recoup some of their costs. While many exhibitors find it difficult to part with their animals, others, like the goats and rabbits, don’t miss them at all.
The 115th Humboldt County Fair opens on Thursday. It is a time for family fun, with food, animals, games, and even a hypnotist! You’ll enjoy a variety of entertainment, including cannon shooting!
Hypnotist Susan Rosen will perform every day on the Fair’s Midway Stage. Visitors will also have the chance to witness her amazing performances, including hypnosis demonstrations and the ability to induce hypnotic trances.
The fair also features livestock barns, which are a popular attraction. Livestock shows are a way for farmers to display their animals, and many of them compete for blue ribbons. While the adult livestock shows are laid-back affairs, the youth and 4-H livestock shows are serious business.
Lamb BBQ / Dessert Auction is a major fundraiser for the California Humboldt County 4-H. The proceeds of the auction support the Fieg-Tucker Scholarship fund. This fundraiser features dishes prepared by different 4-H clubs. Each club provides two different desserts for the auction.
