The American Poultry Association supports the community of poultry breeders and the hobby of poultry breeding with the goal of breeding to the Standard of Perfection. In the fall of 2016, the APA held its 44th annual fall poultry show in Williamsburg, Virginia. The event attracted over 1,400 entries, including barnyard mixes and regional fowls of all kinds. The show was a success in many ways, but also a failure in others.

As a volunteer for the Virginia Poultry Breeders Association (VPBA), Jaye Ray attends the Fall Poultry Show each year. As a program assistant for the Association, she supports the Senior Program Managers and the Programs Coordinator. She also handles breed registrations for the association. She has a background in data management and enjoys learning about different cultures.

Can Alison Martin Win at the Virginia Poultry Breeders Association Fall Poultry Show?

Alison Martin, executive director of the Virginia Poultry Breeders Association, is no stranger to poultry and livestock breeding. A childhood hobby of hers included raising backyard chickens, waterfowl, rabbits, and horses. A scientist by training, Martin has spent over 20 years studying poultry genetics. Her work includes the development of the world’s first in ovo vaccine for coccidiosis. She also holds a PhD in Genetics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In addition to being a professional poultry breeder, Martin has also worked with the Association’s many conservation programs.
